Death-Con 4 Behind the Chile Curtain

Death-Con 4 Behind the Chile Curtain

October 12, 2026

You know there are so many lies the politicians tell that I could write hundred of articles. But I’m going to focus on one that takes the cake. There is a group pushing for New Mexico lawmakers to get salaries. They call it constitutional amendment 4. Presently, lawmakers receive no salary but they only have one and two month sessions in alternating years. Yes, in the interim there are preparatory tasks needed for the next session but that’s likely barely part-time.

I can’t tell you how much I appreciate lawmakers only meeting for these short time periods each year to propose and pass legislation. I don’t care what party is in charge. Giving politicians more time to create messes and ride the corruption gravy (or crazy) train, which the Democrats are overwhelmingly responsible for in this state beyond all imagination, is something every member of the public should loathe and fight against.

There is an ad by this group which is an outright fraud to convince you to vote for this, assuming you’re stupid. They say (paraphrasing),

“NM lawmakers should have to experience how the rest of us live and get salaries that are only the average for New Mexicans. Vote yes on amendment 4.”

Amazingly the proposed salary is $67,800 to start in 2029.

Huhh!? They only meet annually as I stated above and they get NO salary now. These people assume that you, the taxpayer, will vote yes as though they are overpaid now (which is falsely implied) and they need a salary commensurate with what the “little people” experience.

Aaaahh, but this is not about just a salary which by the way is very high for a legislator. The 2025 average annual lawmaker salary in the US is $44,320. New Mexico Election 2026: Constitutional Amendment 4 • Source New Mexico Lawmakers in Texas, Colorado and Arizona make less and these are much more populated and successful states. New Mexico is a comparatively poor state.

Worse, they are using the average which always over-represents high income folks in the state. Their annual incomes will pull up the average. Remember, the lawmakers have no salary now which the ad does not tell you. It implies that they earn something now but need to experience life like the rest of us and need an adjustment down to the average salary. Keep in mind that the average over-represents the wealthy.

A better number is the median (I still don’t think they should get a salary) and the median income for a full-time worker in New Mexico in 2024 is $53,328. (New Mexico Income Statistics | Current Census Data for New Mexico Zip Codes) Interestingly, the reference shows the 2024 average income for a full-time worker as $69,793. The median is the salary in the middle (half earn below and half earn above) and this diminishes the impact of a few very high earners which influences the average by pushing it higher.

But it’s even worse than that using the same reference. The median 2024 income in NM for any worker (part- and full-time) is $35,270 with the average at $36,218. Don’t they get enough with the endemic corruption?

But remember this is not just about a salary. The goal is to get in a salary and then go after an amendment (or any mechanism regardless of “democracy”) which has the legislature meeting all year round. The real deal is that the Democrats assume they will always be in power. Watch the economic well-being decline even lower than it is now, the terrible roads continue to be terrible, the schools keep failing (ranked last or near last), your constitutional rights disappear, more government programs that enslave people and solve no problems get pushed, businesses leave the state, health-care access go even lower (they just want you to get used to socialized medicine with its months and years for wait times because that’s the experience right now) and crime rates continue to be ranked among the world’s worst states, cities and countries.

By the way, how is it that they, Democrats, comfortably assume they will always be in power? Think about that for a moment.

I actually know someone who passed away because they couldn’t access urgently needed care anywhere in New Mexico and had to be sent to Texas to get that care and that short time period in between was enough to pass away. Yes, the Democrats here care about your health care access (sarcasm detected).

Spare the people of New Mexico further abuse and stop the politicians from killing your freedoms. Vote NO on amendment 4 (Death-Con 4).
