Thouest Shall, Declareth the Politician

Thouest Shall, Declareth the Politician

October 6, 2026

Some politicians think that by quoting from a religious text in their political campaign that they can convince you to vote for them. While we can pick any religious text as an example, here in the US these politicians often use the Holy Bible.

Now first, there is a principle in this country called “separation of church (mosque, temple, synagogue, etc.) and state.” This exists for a very good reason. Many organized religions have a history of suppressing, hindering, harassing, discriminating against, or worse, those who don’t ascribe to that religion. Couple this with the power of the state and things can go very badly for those on the so-called “wrong” side. I would argue that for most Christian sects today, this is less of an issue than fifty years ago. I’m not sure that’s true about other religions. I’m just not as familiar with the other ones so some research is needed here. Regardless, the principle shall stand in this country.

So why are these politicians in churches or at religious events and quoting the Holy Bible? Let’s start with one frequently used passage,

Matthew 25:35-40

35 “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me. Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ 40 The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me’”

It is lines 35 and 40, which are marked, that are quoted most often. Jesus is referring to your personal responsibility here. Your actions as an individual with your brethren are what’s being described. But this is used by politicians to convince you to vote for them who will then take, by the violent power of the state, your and other people’s hard-earned money and assets and then pass that through a wasteful, abusive and fraudulent authoritarian establishment where they distribute a portion of the funds to their friends, family, cohorts and supporters and then finally give a small portion to the needy, enslaving them and expecting votes from them or be cut-off.

Jesus did not like politicians, establishments and authorities. Most people convinced by this nonsense don’t understand that it is their responsibility to directly help those in need. But most of these people think that they can assuage their responsibility by getting the government to take from others by force (which actually includes themselves without understanding that) and then give what ends up being a small portion of the originally confiscated money to the needy who end up, like addicts, trapped in a cycle of dependency on politicians. Got it?

Politicians using these quotes are power-hungry authoritarians. Don’t be fooled to vote for them. They want control of the economic activity of millions of people and they believe in your dependency. On the confiscation side, you go to jail if you don’t give and on the dependency side, you’re a slave expected to vote for them.

Jesus believed in free-will and personal freedom. These politicians definitely don’t offer free-will and freedom. In fact, these politicians are interfering with everyone’s spiritual growth by suppressing your personal responsibility and individual free-will needed to develop a true relationship with God, the Almighty, the Lord, Natural Law, Deity, Cosmic Consciousness or place your own term(s) here. They are actually preventing your personal growth as a good and humane person, your progression to a higher state of spirituality and a greater relationship with God (or as stated otherwise above).

Another frequently used passage is Proverbs 19:17 –

“Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward them for what they have done,”

This refers to you individually. This does not mean you get to neglect your personal responsibility and instead get the authorities to take from another group of people and then give that to the needy after passing through a system filled with manipulation and fraud.

Now after everything I have said above, please know that most of us agree to have some kind of government funded safety net and, in the US, there are already lots of them: welfare (direct cash assistance), food stamps (SNAP), medicaid, unemployment, subsidized housing, school lunches, etc., etc. On top of that are numerous charities, civic organizations and churches who help fill in with food, housing and medical care. So why do these politicians want to convince you, using the Holy Bible, that they need more? It’s simple: power and control. They will tell you it’s never enough until they control everyone and everything and then maybe they will figure out how to go beyond that.

Please accept your personal responsibility to follow through with these wonderful passages (or directives, if you will). I do. Don’t turn over your freedom to these politicians and at the same time destroy your own spiritual development.

If you want to give of your own heart and earn the blessings that come with giving and blessing others then you can do so. But nowhere does the Holy Bible (or any other book) make politicians the intermediary of this where they use this money to fraudulently help their buddies in the process before a pittance goes to the needy who are now beholden to a government program restricting their freedom.

It’s easy to vote for these people, give nothing yourself, but force other people to give. Why don’t you instead give your money, property, energy and time to helping the needy instead of letting these people trick you into feeling good about yourself because you elected control freaks to take from and enslave others. I’m listing some organizations here right now that need your help.

It’s time for you, instead of voting away everyone’s freedom, their personal growth and spiritual development, to get to work and take it upon yourself to help others and move ahead on your spiritual path by exercising your personal responsibility to help your fellow human beings in need and might as well do something good for the environment too. It’s good for your humanity and good for your soul. Thank You and God Bless!
