Recently, the city of Albuquerque approved the construction of a mosque on 3.6 acres with a building over 40,000 sq. ft. not far from where the balloon fiesta occurs (the very neat annual hot-air balloon gathering in October). While this was done after a “public forum and meeting veneer,” overall it happened very quickly. A school was denied and there are limits on the height of structures. The call to prayers is to be announced such that it can’t be heard outside the property.
Now I am a strong supporter of our bill of rights and the freedom to practice the religion or faith of your choice or not. I am also all for people being able to pursue happiness and for government to stay out of the way which means, assuming common sense rules are satisfied, approving the construction of the facility you desire on your property. I also know and have known Muslims. Our interactions are and were pleasurable. I also know a few people from Muslim countries who have rejected Islam, just so that you know.
But there are several aspects of this facility that you should know about which impact your life going forward in Albuquerque. Let’s discuss.
First, the city of Albuquerque is constantly complaining about the homeless and the lack of affordable housing. A 3.6 acre property in that part of Albuquerque would have put a big dent in both. The city is very liberal, di(pro)gressive and socialist and their mantra about saving the homeless and making housing more affordable fall flat with their approval of this facility. They actually don’t care about these issues or they would focus on them. They just get uninformed emotional voters to vote for them using these issues. Consider that an estimated 500 family-size units could have been built on this property, easily. A homeless center could have accommodated thousands of people in need. NOW, NOTHING.
Well, the Muslims have a right to practice their faith. Yes, they do. I agree with that. But there are already multiple mosques (centers of worship) in Albuquerque. There are only about 12,000 Muslims in all of New Mexico (Muslim Population by State 2026).
Here’s what’s actually planned. I have this on good word.
The new mosque will push against the approved rules and petition for dramatic expansion upward (because that’s integral to the religion) even if a lawsuit is required. Lots of minarets.

Five total mega-mosques are planned, selectively placed in certain city council districts. The goal is to attract over 100,000 Muslims to Albuquerque. The goal is to control city council and the mayor’s office. You say, that’s not enough Muslim voters. Well, it doesn’t have to be because the “we’ll vote away principles of freedom in the name of diversity crowd,” democrats, will vote with them. The Muslims know this and this is their plan. The democrats will vote away their own freedoms in the process.
Welcome to your new controllers and consider:
No separation of religion and state. Is Sharia law at play? Yes, it is. Do other faiths get to practice? There will be limitations, but they will eventually get pushed out. The Christians (many of whom are specifically Catholic) who went for this aren’t critical thinkers and very naive. I am being polite here.
Limited or no women’s rights. The “big right” the women of NM lose their minds over, abortion, and vote democrat, will be severely limited or removed. Women are second or maybe third-class citizens in Islam. That’s a fact. Your burka is on the way. Don’t walk next to men. Walk behind them. There’s more, lots more. None of it good for women.
No LGBTQ+ rights. None, by the way. In some Muslim countries this is punishable by prison or even death.
They hate dogs. I love dogs and so do most of you. This could be dog genocide which breaks my heart. Today, shelters work hard to place them in homes. Not so anymore.
Free speech. Not if it goes against Islam or whatever the local imams say is Islam.
Schools will be forced to teach Islamic principles. I don’t think schools should specifically teach any religious principles unless it is a class offered to students as an elective. Keep in mind there are school holidays centered on Christian-based celebrations. Frankly, over time much of this has been secularized and the time breaks are needed.
Don’t worry, we (Muslims) will let you have some of these freedoms in some form, temporarily. Just vote for our candidates. It’s ok. Isn’t diversity a strength? That’s your phrase! You can hear the campaign nonsense already.
Is it possible that the Muslims will eventually assimilate into a free society that respects women’s rights, LGBTQ+ rights, free speech, freedom of religion, etc. Yes, but no one can guarantee that and, if it occurs, it will take 2 or 3 American born generations. I’m trying to look at the glass slightly full here.
My goal is to inform you with the truth. Our Muslim brethren are fellow human beings and deserve to be treated with dignity like any other human being. Many are citizens and have the rights of citizenship. If you came here legally and contribute to the success of this country, welcome and thank you. But American freedoms are worth fighting for and protecting. Everyone has a better life living with the freedoms most of us cherish, everyone.
Some people will claim this title is racist. Au contraire. First of all, there are large noses in my family. Ok, no biggie (pun intended). Secondly, the camel portrays an image of the middle east where Islam started and many Muslim countries exist. What a shame that the nose on camel rock (between Santa Fe and Pojoaque) fell off. Can’t it be re-attached? Just an aside. Finally, the phrase is well known and applies here.
